How to Price Your Project Like a Pro: Web development
Axel Hunter
When it comes to pricing your project, there are a lot of factors to consider. Are you building a website from scratch? Are you revamping an existing one? How many pages will the site have? What kind of features will it need? Will you be providing content? Will you need to purchase any licenses or images? How much time will it realistically take you to complete the project?
All of these factors play a role in how you price your project. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through an example of how to price a project for a client. We’ll use the example of building a website from scratch.
First, let’s break down all of the different elements that go into pricing a website build. Here are some key factors to consider:
Now that we’ve gone over all of the factors that impact pricing, let’s walk through an example. Let’s say you’re designing a simple 5-page website for a small business. The client is providing all of the content and they just need some help with organization, design, and making sure everything looks nice on desktop and mobile devices. They don’t need anything too fancy – just something clean and modern that accurately reflects their brand. Here’s how we would price that project:
📝 $500 for the initial consultation/project scoping (1 hour)
👨🎨 $2,000 for website design (8 hours)
📱 $500 for responsive design (2 hours)
👩💻 $1,000 for development (4 hours)
Total: $4,000 💵
🍩 Just the sprinkles
Pricing your project can seem daunting at first, but if you break it down into smaller pieces, it’s not as overwhelming. Start by identifying all of the different elements that go into your project then give yourself a reasonable timeline for completing each task. From there, it’s just a matter of doing some simple math to come up with your final price. If you’re ever unsure about how to price something, err on the side of caution and charge a little bit more than you think is necessary. That way, you’re never leaving money on the table.
